Boarding Houses

NEGS boarders live in modern residences with light and airy rooms, which are shared in the younger years and progress to private study bedrooms in Year 12. Social life and entertainment centre on the common rooms. Friendly staff are on hand to assist and guide students through the experience of living with others.

The girls live in four residences - Dickens, Kirkwood, Saumarez and White. Students in Years 5 to 10 share bedrooms with girls from their year, generally with two students to a room and occasionally three.  All Year 11 and 12 students have their own private rooms and Saumarez is designed specifically to provide Year 12 students with a more independent living experience while still offering the  support and guidance of Residential Co-ordinators. Each Boarding House is supervised by specialist staff who reside with the students in the boarding houses.

The residential co-ordinators and other support staff care for the students in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere while at the same time maintaining routines and rules. All staff are directly responsible to the Director of Boarding who oversees the welfare of boarders and ensures all girls are safe and secure.

Rooms are expected to be kept neat and tidy at all times, but boarders may bring posters, pictures or other items to make their room more like home. Students are able to bring laptop computers, sports equipment and even a bicycle - if they wish.

Common Rooms
The social aspect of the boarding experience is centred on the common rooms located throughout the boarding houses, which are used often for meetings, entertainment and general leisure activities during the week and on weekends.
All are equipped to make free time as enjoyable as possible. There are televisions sets and video/dvd players along with couches, coffee tables and a pool table for the Year 12 students.

Basic cooking facilities are provided for snacks in the houses and include toasters, electric jugs and microwave ovens, while refrigerators are also available. However, breakfast, lunch and dinner  are provided in the school Dining Hall.

NEGS provides a commercial laundry service on campus.  However students in Years 9 to 12, may choose to do their own laundry for non school uniform items. Bedding and towels are changed once a week.
