In 2015 the New England Girls’ School (NEGS) launched Australia’s first girls’ polocrosse Academy designed to build representative ready players. NEGS has a long and strong history with the Polocrosse Association of New South Wales(PANSW). The NEGS Polocrosse Club Inc was registered in 2015 to reintroduce polocrosse and provide greater opportunities to put their training into action. The team has had much success with a high percentage of the girls named in NSW, WA and Australian teams and squads in 2015. Most weekends during the season, the polocrosse girls and their horses head off with Hayden and his support crew to carnivals. The Academy’s training program has been developed by three-time Australian player and respected coach Hayden Turnbull and endorsed by the Polocrosse Association of Australia. The program, like all NEGS Equestrian programs, is a comprehensive holistically designed program that builds capacity in the rider and horse. Horse and rider fitness, health, welfare and resilience training sees the girls working together and individually before and after school. The structured schedule enables students to focus on their academic studies and grow as a player. Each student in the program has reported a marked improvement in their academic performance since commencing the training program at NEGS.
