Our Principal

“An education at NEGS is an experience that will be valued and remembered for life.”

Mary Anne Evans

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the New England Girls’ School website and take the opportunity to introduce myself as the Principal at the helm one of the most established co-educational junior schools and senior girls’ school in the region.

It is an exciting time for NEGS as we seek to consolidate our position as the leading boarding school in NSW and continue to build on our academic and sporting reputation whilst preparing students for happiness and success in their future lives.

The size of NEGS and our continued emphasis on developing and maintaining positive relationships means that we know each and every student as an individual. Whilst academic success is a strong focus, we also give serious consideration to the student’s emotional and spiritual needs. NEGS has invested significant time in researching the benefits of wellbeing and believe that investing in the mental health of our students leads to improvements in social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes.

Leading this energetic, talented and caring community of staff and students is an extraordinary privilege and together we look forward to continuing to deliver an outstanding and well-rounded education both within and beyond the classroom.

Our School

At New England Girls’ School (NEGS) we believe success is best measured by the way in which we prepare our students to embrace the challenges that await them beyond their school years. We lay the foundation for each of our students to be self-confident, inquisitive, tolerant and positive young women.

And we encourage our girls to have independent minds, to pursue their goals and dreams with confidence, creativity and compassion so they can make a difference in the world around them.

Since 1895, we have maintained a proud tradition of providing outstanding education for day and boarding students from Years 7 to 12. Beginning in the 1970s we have included education for boys and girls from Transition to Year 6 at St John’s Junior School. There is no other place where the best of tradition enhances the possibilities of the future in the way that NEGS does.

Our rigorous academic program and diverse curriculum are delivered in an intimate and supportive environment where every student is encouraged to strive for personal and academic excellence with a global perspective.

With our innovative educational partnerships we offer an exciting range of subjects and co-curricular choices to cater for individual passions and choices, yet we are small enough to dedicate individual attention on the academic and social progress of each student.

On our beautiful 50-hectare campus with its heritage-listed buildings, students enjoy access to specialist facilities such as well-equipped laboratories, an award-winning multi-purpose centre (which includes indoor sporting facilities and a gym), an elegant dining room, a magnificent art studio, a library resourced for online research, a modern Equestrian Centre and campus-wide wireless internet facilities.

At NEGS we are ideally positioned to educate, inspire and nurture the wellbeing of girls today to become the leaders of tomorrow.
