“With strong links to professional performing groups and around 15 specialist music staff, NEGS offers a comprehensive vocal and instrumental program.”
NEGS offers students a unique opportunity in terms of staffing ratios and access to specialist tuition. We are able to offer girls individual attention and tailor programs to their needs in a way that is not possible in a large school.
With strong links to professional performing groups and around 15 specialist music staff, NEGS offers a comprehensive vocal and instrumental program. Well-known for its singing, the Music Department operates five ongoing choirs which are engaged in numerous projects throughout the year. The choral program is directed by Kodaly methodology, which links closely with classroom experiences.
Band programs are offered in Stage 3 and Stage 4 and we offer specialist tuition on a wide variety of band and orchestral instruments. Intermediate and advanced instrumentalists participate in various ensembles, which include three string ensembles, wind ensemble and the unique NEGS Handbell Ensemble. Music is popular as both an elective and an extra-curricular activity and HSC students perform regularly as both soloists and ensemble members.
Twilight concerts give opportunities for soloists at all levels to perform in a small, informal setting while assemblies and school events provide a large audience for advanced performers and ensembles.
We also facilitate participation in selective ensembles within the wider community such as NECOM ensembles and Armidale Youth Orchestra.
