Round Square @ NEGS

At Tuesday’s Assembly the student delegation who attended the 2017 International Round Square Conference in the October holidays presented to the rest of the School. What you and I would define as a conference is very different to the experience the students have when they attend a Round Square conference. There is always a theme – the 2017 theme was “Ignite the Fire Within’. The guest speakers, service learning and adventure experiences throughout the conference encapsulated this theme. At this conference the students and staff had the experience of a lifetime. The location of the conference was Botswana, Africa and Cape Town, South Africa. A list below gives you an idea of what they spoke about in Assembly:

  • Lioness and her cubs
  • Cheetah and her cub
  • Hyenas in their den
  • Elephants
  • Giraffe
  • Zebra
  • Impala
  • Wildebeest
  • Warthogs
  • Ostrich
  • Baboons
  • Table Mountain and the cable car ride, Cape Town
  • V&A Waterfront, Cape Town
  • Dust
  • Food
  • Meeting hundreds of other students from around the world
  • The experience that makes us, breaks us
  • Lightning hitting the plane
  • Fun

And the pictures provide you with even more of an idea about the experience.

2018 Round Square Opportunities

Year 8 – two week exchanges are offered to Year 8 where they have the opportunity to experience the culture and way of life in one of our many Regional Round Square schools. These are located within Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Thailand and other interesting locations.

Year 10 – one term exchanges are offered to Year 10 where they have the opportunity to experience the culture and way of life in one of the International schools. This year students have been to Canada, America, UK, South Africa and France to name a few. Applications and interviews have already been submitted and carried out for 2018 and the applicants are eagerly awaiting to hear which schools they have been allocated.

Conference and Service Learning

It is exciting to announce that The Southport School on the Gold Coast have invited us to join their service learning project to Cambodia from 2018. This is an annual trip which students will be offered and is associated with ‘Feeding the Dreams’ organisation in Cambodia. In 2018 this service learning project is scheduled before the 12 – 13 year olds Regional conference in Beijing, hosted by Keystone Academy. Please see additional information below, in this newsletter.

Bunbury Cathedral School, Western Australia are hosting the Senior Regional Conference in 2018. This is for 15 – 16 year olds and information will be distributed soon in regards to this conference. This conference is scheduled for the April holidays. Each conference has a service learning component as well as addressing all the other IDEALS of the Round Square philosophy.

The Armidale School are hosting the 10 – 12 year old Conference in the April holidays and again additional information will be distributed soon when this comes to light.
