Boarding News – Week 4

Happy National Boarding Week to students and families in Boarding @ NEGS. This week celebrates the reasons why boarding is beneficial to students and why boarding is a great option for your daughter. I set the girls a challenge – they had 24 hours to respond to an email that asked them to let me know in 25 words or less why they love boarding. Here are the first 5 responses:

  • ‘I love boarding because living at school is like a big sleepover with all of my friends. Also I can gain independence’ (Eloise Barden, Year 9)
  • “I love boarding because everyone helps me wherever and whenever I need and every moment I spend with my friends should be precious in my life’. (Emi Hasegawa, Year 10)
  • “I love boarding because you can interact with friends and other students on a different level than school.” (Matilda Adamson, Year 12)
  • ‘I love boarding because its like a big sleepover with all your friends and its heaps of fun.” (Bronte Hiscox, Year 12)
  • ‘My name is Laura Finlay and I am in Year 10. I am a part of Kirkwood House boarding life and have really enjoyed and embraced the atmosphere that it brings. Since being at NEGS, I love listening to everyone’s interesting stories they have to tell.’

As I write this article we are preparing to welcome over 20 girls into boarding on Friday 12th May. This is a Taster night in boarding after the girls have experienced a day at school. The Year 7 & 8 buddies get to have a sleep over in Dickens and Year 9 & 10s have time in Kirkwood. It looks to be a fun night and I will provide a post story about this event in the next newsletter.

Girls have already taken advantage of the activities we have had this term. A trip to the Sunday markets, participating as an audience member at the UNE Albies College production of Grease and some outdoor fun at Dumaresq Dam. I have included in this newsletter an outline of weekend activities which are planned for this Term. Of course this can change depending on weather and also if there are requests from the girls to do something specific.
