From the Principal’s Desk – Week 11

Mrs Mary Anne Evans

Mrs Mary Anne Evans

As it is the final week of Term 1 2018, we are all able to both reflect upon achievements, or how we could have done things differently, and look forward to a well deserved break. There is no doubt that Term 1 has been busy with the normal academic rigours; Yr 12 Mid Course Examinations – where accountability is evident; assessments; Round Square Trip to Cambodia and Beijing; the US Equestrian Tour; Stage Three trip to Canberra; sport excursion to the Commonwealth Games; rowing/swimming to Sydney; regular sport; Junior & Senior School Cross Country; Twilight Concerts; musical performances; the Easter Hat Parade; Father-Daughter Dinner; boarding trips; etc. etc. etc.

As part of this ongoing reflection the Executive at NEGS, supported by the Board, recognises the importance to link all progressions of the School to the Strategic Plan. When the “Strategic Plan 2017 – 2022 The Way Forward” was launched at the end of 2016 we made a pledge that we would be collectively focused on delivering a refreshed strategy across the School that adheres to our four pillars.

These pillars are:

1. Excellence in learning; 2. Co-curricular activities; 3. Sustainability; and 4. Community partnerships.

With these four pillars of the NEGS foundation, we were pleased to announce that NEGS will be partnering with Hockey NSW in a Player Pathway Program. This partnership will incorporate high-performance coaching delivered exclusively to NEGS students. This will have enormous benefits for both NEGS and potential hockey players keen to enrol in the program. This historic alliance will be the first of its kind outside a major metropolitan area. Key to this is our building of a state-of-the-art synthetic hockey field. Built to Federation of International Hockey Standards, this world-class facility will be the envy of many hockey associations around Australia due to design elements that include LED lighting and an innovative hybrid synthetic surface. As wonderful as this is for NEGS, it is the entire New England Community that will also benefit from such a turf. Armidale will now be in a position to host state championships and training camps; inter-town competitions and the like.

I wish you all a happy and safe holiday with your children, and I look forward to the promise of what an exciting Term 2 brings.
