Boarding @ NEGS – Week 2

Welcome back to Boarding @ NEGS for 2018.  It was wonderful to catch up with existing and new families on Monday during Orientation Day and at the BBQ in the evening. It has been a very busy week already, including our closed weekend this past weekend.

All girls have settled in well this week and their rooms are looking great. It is wonderful to see so many new faces and the boarding community welcomes all new families to NEGS and we look forward to getting to know you. To our returning families it is great to see smiling faces and the girls are into their routine for the term already.

This weekend I have been very fortunate to witness the NEGS “participation and making the most of every opportunity given to them” attitude. It all started on Friday night when the girls were put into mixed year groups and given the challenge to begin planning and rehearsing for the Boarding Talent Quest night which was held on Saturday night.  There was so much talent displayed on Saturday night! Acts included lip syncing, celebrity heads, Simon says, chubby bunny, sister act and many more. The House Mothers were the judges and the top prize went to the “Sister Act” group capably led by Jessie Ross and India Johnson.

Before the Saturday night acting began the girls made their weekly trip to town in the morning to purchase their weekly treats and show the new girls around. Back to school for lunch and an afternoon rehearsal for that night’s talent quest show.

On Sunday the girls met in the MPC at 10.30am. It was great that day girls joined in on the day as well. After a couple of ‘Mrs Thomas group activities’, the girls had a lot of fun (although the weather was a little cool), challenging each other on the blow up obstacle course, getting dizzy on the water in the blow up balls or overdoing it on the sugar intake by eating fairy floss and snow cones. It was also good that the girls had time to just ‘hang out’ together for a couple of hours and some even dared to swim in the pool…..

The weekend ended with a Formal Roast Dinner in the NEGS dining hall. The students looked immaculate and we all enjoyed the delicious serving of lamb and vegetables after such an active weekend. Congratulations to all boarding and the day students who participated wholeheartedly in the weekend.
