Music @ NEGS – Week 2

Mrs Sally Spillane

Mrs Sally Spillane

It was lovely to welcome everyone back to their music classes and meet all of our new students. We were very happy to welcome Mr Tom Paige to the music team. A professional singer and violinist, the students from Years 9 and 10 will learn many musical skills with him, as well as Mr Phil Oxley who will also be assisting with the class.

We have been busy setting up the music groups which will be running this year at school. In the Junior School we will be running Saumarez Strings for our budding violinists, cello and double bass players. This group will be run by Mrs Laura Curotta, a very experienced Strings teacher. Our wonderful Junior Vocal Ensemble group will be held every Wednesday morning from 8.00am. It is open for any students from Years 2-6 who love singing together, what a great way to start the school day. Mr Oxley’s fabulous Junior Handbell players will be practising after students have had their lunch at Monday lunchtime.I will be starting a Junior School Marimba group on Thursday morning before school beginning at 8.00am, notes will go out next week about this group. So many wonderful choices for students to make.

In Senior school we have a Guitar Ensemble group run by Miss Arlene Fletcher which will be for students who already play the guitar and would like to perform together. This will begin at 8.15am. Monday lunchtime I will be running a Marimba Ensemble group for students who would like to play marimbas and perform together. Tuesday lunchtime will be NEGS Vocal Ensemble which will be for students from Year 7 to Year 9 who enjoy singing together. We are beginning a NEGS band which will be for students who are already competent on their instruments. This will begin at 1.20pm each week. Mr Alistair Finco a very experience band leader will be taking this group.Thursday lunchtime Mr Phil Oxley who is a renowned conductor in this region will be taking a Senior Vocal Ensemble group. This will be for students from Year 10,11 and 12. Please talk to your children about joining one or more of the wonderful music groups that are in our school.

Please note if your daughter attends any of the NECOM Ensembles after school the NEGS school bus will transport them to and from NECOM. Please email to arrange this.

The music team at NEGS is looking forward to a fabulous year of music. Please contact us if you would like to know more information about getting your child playing an instrument or been part of one of our music groups . We welcome you all.
