Campdrafting

Campdrafting at NEGS

Campdrafting is one of Australia’s fastest growing equestrian sports, with large participation numbers hailing from regional and rural areas. The NEGS Campdraft Squad is an exciting opportunity for motivated and committed riders to develop and improve their skills, and train with industry professionals. Students have the opportunity to work with live cattle, refine skills during dry work and improve technical accuracy during mechanical cow sessions.

NEGS’ campdrafting team is well catered for under the watchful eye of coach Gloria McCormack. Gloria is an accomplished horsewoman who has had a lifetime of involvement with horses. She has competed successfully across many disciplines, most notably campdrafts and challenges. Along with her husband Phillip they breed, train and sell their “Clearchoice” performance horses at the major sales. She is an accredited judge and assignments have taken her to most parts of Australia including Western Australia, Northern Territory and Queensland. She is also a NEGS Old Girl which gives her an insight into the unique environment of the girls living away from home and family.

With a focus on horsemanship and the development of the athlete both in training and ultimately in competition, the program is geared allowing riders to make the transition into the industry seamless. From 2019 there is an exciting introduction of on site bison into the camp draft program, taking the training of our future athletes to another level.

Students taking part in the program have the opportunity of working with successful competitor and professional trainer in the industry, NEGS campdraft coach Gloria McCormack. Riders are also invited to request private lessons and horse schooling with Gloria.
