Campdrafting at NEGS

Campdrafting is one of Australia’s fastest growing equestrian sports, with large participation numbers hailing from regional and rural areas. The NEGS Campdraft Squad is an exciting opportunity for motivated and committed riders to develop and improve their skills and train with industry professionals. Students have the opportunity to work with live cattle, refine skills during dry work and improve technical accuracy during mechanical cow sessions.

NEGS’ campdrafting team is well catered for under the watchful eye of coach Codie Law, alongside resident NEGS coach Robert Newsome. These remarkable horsemen have enjoyed huge success in and out of the saddle, competing successfully across Australia. Codie has helped NEGS procure the use of bison for the squad’s weekly training sessions, which are an excellent, proven alternative to using cattle. Riders also have the use of an outdoor cutting/campdraft arena and a mechanical cow training aid. The squad meets for weekly training during the term.  Lessons include dry work, cattle and bison work, mechanical cow, horse fitness and nutrition mentoring.
