Hosting Kichijo Student, Emi

The June/July school holidays are fast approaching and we are hoping that NEGS families may consider hosting our lovely Japanese student, Emi Hasegawa from Kichijo. We are so grateful to the Sutherland and Muller families (both NEGS Old Girls) and also to the Cassidy family who hosted Emi over the last school holidays. Both Emi and her host families all found it a rewarding experience having Emi stay with them bringing her different culture as well as her learning more of our Australian one. Emi has certainly embraced her time here in Australia, astounding everyone with her enthusiasm to be involved in everything that NEGS has to offer. She has done very well in Agriculture, winning places at the Armidale and Glen Innes shows for grain and horse judging.

NEGS have had a long association with the Kichijo School and we are delighted that two more girls’ are planning to come to NEGS next year. However, we have found it very difficult to find hosts to take the girls’ over the holiday periods and are hoping that more families might consider opening their doors to these students.

It doesn’t matter if you are in Junior or Senior School, or if you can only have Emi for a few days, the experience of having a girl stay from another country can be a wonderful opportunity to learn more about a different culture and language (and apparently Emi is a great cook!).

If you are interested in having Emi stay with your family, please contact Mrs Selina Croft in Akaroa on 6774 8752.
