Meet your Coaches


MR. JOSH COHEN | DIRECTOR OF SPORT

Mr. Josh Cohen an Australian Basketball representative and National Basketball League development player. Josh has represented NSW as a player, coach and has competed in South East Asia, New Zealand and United States of America. Educated in Newcastle with a Masters of Teaching and a Bachelor of Teaching, Health and Physical Education, Josh is our Director of Sport and Teacher at NEGS.


MR. IMTIAZ ANEES | HIGH PERFORMANCE COACH, EQUESTRIAN

Mr. Imtiaz Anees an Equestrian Olympian and a World Equestrian Games Competitor. Imtiaz has won a Bronze Medal at the Asian Games and at the Pan Asian Games in Eventing. Represented India internationally since he was 16 years old. Educated In Australia, trained in the US and Europe with top riders, he now resides at NEGS and is our High Performance Coach and Director of Equestrian. Imti has taken NEGS girls to State Championships and International Competitions. His motto Determination, Discipline and Dedication leads to success.


MR. FRASER ASHMAN | STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING

Mr. Fraser Ashman has represented Scotland in both athletics and rugby. After being educated at Bangor University in sports science, specialising in human physiology and elite performance, Fraser was recruited into a coaching role at Scottish Rugby Union, specialising in strength and conditioning coaching. This lead to a career working with multiple high level athletes, researchers and sports teams such as Sale Sharks Rugby Club and Sunderland United (Soccer team). Fraser is our strength and conditioning coach and Talented Athlete Program Rugby Head coach.

MR. MARK FLYNN | RUGBY

Mr. Mark Flynn is Head Teacher of English/HSIE/Languages. Mark is a keen sportsman who has previously played local first grade in both rugby and rugby league. He is a black belt in karate and has represented Queensland at the Australian championships. Mark still competes in karate tournaments. He is a passionate coach who has coached rugby league/ rugby for over 30 years. Mark started women’s 7’s rugby at NEGS and currently coaches the Armidale Blues women’s 7’s team in the town competition. He believes that the character building that takes place in sport can help you deal with life’s many challenges.

DR. KRISTEN COHEN | NETBALL

Dr. Kristen Cohen an Australian Indoor Netball representative and World Cup gold medallist. Kristen has represented NSW since she was 17 and is a former NSW Institute of Sport Scholarship holder. Educated in Newcastle with a PhD in Education and a Bachelor of Teaching, Health and Physical Education, Kristen is our Talented Athlete Program Netball Head Coach and Teacher at NEGS.
