International students have been an integral part of our student community for many years and we host students from all over the world. NEGS provides a safe, rural environment in which our international students can study.
Under the provisions of the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act 2000 and the National Code 2007, NEGS seeks to provide international students with a safe, enjoyable and rewarding experience, consistent with national education standards. Australia’s laws promote quality education and consumer protection for overseas students. These laws are known as the ESOS framework and include the Education Services for Overseas (ESOS) Act 2000 and The National Code.
All students from non-English speaking backgrounds applying for entry to Year 10 or below will be assessed individually based on their current school reports, they will also be required to complete an English language proficiency test achieving a score of at least 4.5 in the IELTS (Academic) test or similar (AEAS). Students wishing to enter Year 11 should complete an English language proficiency test achieving a minimum score of 5.5 in the IELTS (Academic) test or similar.
NEGS offers students a wonderful array of opportunities and the best way to integrate, learn English and have fun is to become involved in activities available at NEGS. All students have access to the music and sporting facilities, and have the opportunity to enjoy new activities such as riding at the Equestrian Centre.
During the school holidays and boarders’ weekends, international students are encouraged to stay with their friends or with a family to enrich their Australian experience and to practice their English.
