Sport

Sport plays a vital role in the life of a NEGS student, promoting physical health, wellbeing, and personal growth. Our supportive environment nurtures athletes of all levels and interests.

Our sporting program at NEGS Armidale Senior School provides a range of opportunities for students to engage in physical activities, fostering sportsmanship, commitment, and discipline.

NEGS students have numerous competitive opportunities, from local to national levels.

Junior Sport

In our junior school, we start every day with 15-minute fitness sessions. These sessions include circuit workouts, dance, and skipping, setting a dynamic tone for the day. As part of our curriculum, students engage in weekly sports activities, with rotating sports each term to cater to their interests.

Athlete Development Program

NEGS ADP is a space where we can offer a great opportunity for athletes to set and achieve goals, develop physically and mentally and create a strong emphasis on striving for excellence in their particular sporting field.

This program starts as early as junior school where we are implementing a Junior Athlete Program, this is the starting blocks of skill development with our Junior School Students. This is not selective, all students will be offered sessions with high level coaches across hockey, netball and rugby throughout the year. Girls will be assessed in a non formal way to identify emerging athletes once entering into senior school.

This then leads into an Emerging Athlete Program, the Year 7 and 8 students are identified as emerging athlete in their particular sporting field and invited to participate in year round training sessions with high level coaches, these sessions include fitness, conditioning, nutrition, psychology, mind set, movement and specialist coaching sessions from high level coaches in their particular field.

Moving into Year 9 and 10 we uniquely offer a space in the timetable to focus on the Athlete Development Program. They have available to them the same sessions outside the classroom but also have 5 periods a cycle to focus on their personalised programs to help the athletes reach their potential. Included in this part of the program students are expected to gain coaching and officiating qualifications. In this space, we also offer physiological and performance testing across the 5 components of fitness, which are cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, body composition and flexibility. As well as skill-related components including fitness, speed and agility.

Physical preparation is the key component to an overall conditioned athlete who can compete on the national and international stage, the different facets of this preparation cover a range of components related to strength and conditioning, we offer all these within the school timetable and in specialist training sessions.

Moving into Year 11 and 12, this is where the athletes come into their own, the expectation is to lead others in this space, they are given the opportunity to become young women who are driven to achieve excellence in a sport pursuit. The school support encompasses the vision of valuing what they value. The vision of excellence is harnessed here,  intrinsic motivation is key and externally supported.
