Life as a NEGS Boarder
ACADEMICS
At NEGS, we have a clear vision: to establish a culture of high expectations and individual support, fostering a community where all learners can thrive. Our vision is encapsulated in three keywords: Progress, Pathways, and People. Our commitment to small class sizes, with optimal student-to-teacher ratios, focuses on the individual, and sees each student deliver exceptional academic results, but also grow into the best they can be.
SPORT
We consider the most important philosophy is that all students should be involved and encouraged to try a variety of sports, and we provide them with plenty of opportunities to do this.
Summer Sport
During Terms 1 and 4, NEGS offers a variety of sports which vary year to year. Each term, the sports that are offered are tailored to student interests and are changed to ensure all our students have a chance to find a sport they are passionate about.
Winter Sport
During winter, our major sports include hockey, netball and rugby 7s. The hockey and netball teams compete in the IGSA representative competition, and the rugby 7s compete in the Australian Schools Girl Rugby Competitions.
EQUESTRIAN
Our world-class Equestrian Centre is unique to NEGS. It supplies elite coaches, programs, and training facilities to equestrian students from around Australia. The NEGS Equestrian Teams program allows students to develop their riding skills and knowledge in several disciplines such as: Eventing, Dressage, Show Jumping, Campdrafting, Polocrosse and Show Riding. Additional programs for 2024 include Coach Education, Junior Riding Club, Ladies Club and Ready Set Trot programs.
MUSIC
The philosophy behind music at NEGS is the belief that:
- Every child is born musical;
- You are never too old to start learning music;
- Everyone has musical potential; and
- Performing music is rewarding and brings a sense of personal achievement.
Lessons are available for the following instruments: Violin, Cello, Double Bass, Flute, Oboe, Bassoon, Saxophone, Clarinet, Piano, Organ, Singing, Guitar, Bass, Drums, Trumpet, Trombone.
Week-end Activities
Planned week-end activities are an important aspect of boarding life at NEGS, along with regular Saturday morning shopping trips to town and other week-end activities such as sport, there is always plenty to do. Below is an example of a term’s planned activities.
ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
The Athlete Development Program aims to develop, assist and nurture non-elite, talented and committed young female athletes along the pathway to pre-elite success in their chosen sport.
